COVID-19

This virus has changed the way we live. While the threat has been minimized, we should always live with the understanding that this virus exists and we should take preventative measures when needed. We administer COVID-19 exams at the Hurst Medical Clinic in order to verify if the patient has the virus. Here is what that procedure looks like.

That is a great question, we have COVID-19 Antigen tests that you can partake in.

What the COVID-19 antigen test does is it detects certain protein fragments (antigens) from the COVID virus. As a result an antigen test reveals if a person is currently infected with COVID-19. These tests are useful for identifying people who are at or near peak infection with the COVID-19 virus. The antigen tests are less expensive and are generally faster than COVID-19 PCR tests. The downside is that they can be less accurate than COVID-19 PCR tests.

A medical professional will take a nasal or throat swab and it is used to obtain a sample.

That is a great question. If the thought crosses your mind, there is no other reason than to go and get tested. The antigen tests may be used in place of COVID-19 PCR diagnostic tests. However they are less accurate than PCR tests.

A positive antigen test is confirmation of an active COVID-19 infection. Sometimes, these tests have a significantly higher rate of false-negatives though so that means that the test returns negative for the virus but the individual is actually infected with the virus. A COVID-19 PCR diagnostic test is a more accurate way to confirm whether you are actively infected with COVID-19 or not.

There is an increased chance of false-negative results. This means it’s possible to be infected with the virus but have a negative result. Confirmation of true infection status can be obtained with a COVID-19 PCR test.

COVID-19

Your health is a priority. If you feel that it merits a test in order to rule out COVID-19, you should take one and have a medical professional walk you through the results and next step actions. We are here to help.
