Dr. Jose A. Figueroa’s journey through the medical field has been marked by a commitment to excellence and compassionate care of patients in the fields of Medical Oncology and Cancer Investigation. Beginning with his B.Sc. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry with Honors from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, he laid the foundation for his future medical and scientific endeavors. Continuing his educational journey, he earned his MD from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, setting the stage for his specialization in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Figueroa then embarked on his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Juan, which enriched his knowledge of the broader medical landscape. He then completed a Fellowship in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Translational Research at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, with a focus on all types of solid malignancies. His oncology training under luminaries like Drs. Douglas Yee, CK Osborne, Dan Von-Hoff, Peter Ravdin, and William McGuire significantly contributed to his expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of solid malignancies and knowledge of cancer biology.
Dr. Figueroa has held academic positions at the Texas A&M Medical School and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and has served as Director of Clinical Cancer Research at the Joe Arrington Cancer Center and Medical Director of the Southwest Cancer Center in Lubbock Texas. Additionally, he is a Founding Member of Kiromic Biopharma, Inc. in Houston, and served as its first Chief Medical Officer showcasing his commitment to cutting-edge advancements in cancer immunotherapy and cellular therapeutics for cancer. Dr. Figueroa has authored more than 100 publications, including peer reviewed scientific articles, abstracts and book chapters related to cancer. His academic journey and professional contributions showcase his unwavering dedication to oncology and his pursuit of knowledge at the highest levels.
Dr. Figueroa’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards is evident in his certifications. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine with certification in the Medical Oncology Subspecialty Board. His training, experience and certifications collectively showcase Dr. Figueroa’s extensive and accomplished career in the fields of Medicine and Medical Oncology. Since 2019, Dr. Figueroa has served as an Independent Consultant in Medical Oncology and Cancer Research for several healthcare and research companies. In January 2023, Dr. Figueroa joined the Hurst Medical Clinic as its Medical Director, bringing his expertise, vision, and experience in the fields of Medicine and Cancer Care to Hurst, Texas.
